This is going to be a fun challenge.
When the Amgis stock club group asked us to plan a 4th trip to the wine country, part of me was excited and part of me was anxious. How could we come up with something different to make it fun and hold everyone’s interest while surpassing the previous experiences. The past 3 trips have focused on Napa Valley wineries, even though for 2 of the trips we spent a day in Sonoma County. So we decided this time to stay in Healdsburg and focus on small family owned wineries in the area, making it a very casual few days.
This group is so much fun to work with. The guys were all in college together in a leadership honorary. When they graduated in the 60’s, they formed a stock club which is still going and meets monthly. It has been over 40 years and they are all good friends. They love life, enjoy great wine dinners and laughing together.
I remember clearly the first trip we planned for this group in 1999. For most of them, it was their first introduction to good wine and they were pleasantly surprised how beautiful and how much fun California wine country tours could be as well as the good food it offered. They had such a good time, that they “nick named” their group the Amgis Wine Society.
Enough reminiscing!!!
Sent out an email to the Amgis group asking for a deposit from each one. That lets me know how many are really interested. Received a lot right away. Gonna be a lot of fun. They are so trusting of us to plan and make it special. Don’t even care about the details. They just want to show up and enjoy.
Seems to be a lot of interest in spending a couple of days first in San Francisco. Will line that up so they can select that option. We will arrange to have the bus pick up everyone at one location in the city and bring them up to the hotel in Healdsburg. Need to plan some group dinners in San Francisco that they will enjoy. Good thing my son lives there and knows lots and lots of good restaurants. He is a foodie and enjoys wine also (I guess it runs in the family)!
Stay tuned for Part 2 of the planning process…
